Welcome to Thursday's blog. I can hardly believe it! The end of the first week is nearly upon us. Thank you so much for the increased volume of Emails. Look at Samson's fabulous Moon photograph. Remember to try to take or draw another  picture of the moon tonight. If the sky is too cloudy, write down that you couldn't see the moon because of cloud and date it. I know last night, for example, was extremely cloudy. Good luck!

Oops...I nearly forgot. Remember to log in to watch the Oak National Assembly  at 11am : https://www.thenational.academy/assembly

The guest speaker is Beth Tweddle, Olympic Bronze medallist, 3 x World Champion & 6 x European Champion‍!🤸

Also, get your dancing shoes ready! There will be a wellbeing dance class with Stacie Lee Bennett-Worth. I can't wait!

Half way through this first week back, it has been lovely catching up with some of you and finding out about your half term. I appreciate that as this Lockdown has gone on it has got harder for some of you to focus on work and that in this half world, where some children are coming back to school, life seems even stranger.

The work being posted is more and more geared to preparing you for year 6. However hard it is, it is important to keep up the daily reading, times tables and do as much of the work as you can, without driving your poor parents round the bend.   Aim to send at least one piece of work to me each week. It could be your art work, the design for a computer hero, your character description, your videoed synonym work - or something else that takes your eye. I will wait with eager anticipation.

Happy Wednesday! First of all, here is a revised link to your Hello video. See who the extra Hello is from.

    https://youtu.be/yt6dFiYTDPM

The fabulous Thumbnail was taken by Mrs Howlett on Monday afternoon. It's the moon, but I wonder- using your National Geographic poster- whether you can give it its special name. I hope you have started recording your moon observations. I'll post mine every day in the blog too. Please continue to send me your work and emails. I know, as this Lockdown has gone on, how hard it is to keep focussed. However, we need to be preparing ourselves for Year 6, whilst keeping our fingers crossed that it will be safe for us to return to school soon.

This Tuesday, we are completing our Earth and Space topic by tracking the luna cycle. That will involve getting someone to take photos of the moon for a whole month so that you will be able to see how it appears to change. I will try and remember to take photos too. Very often scientists need to be prepared to spend hours, days, weeks, months and even years making careful measurable observations, so that they can make a worthwhile analysis of what they have seen. Look in this blog for the calendar where you can record your results and use the poster to help you write down the 'type' of moon you have seen. I wonder if anyone can explain to me why the moon appears to change shape.

Happy Monday to you all! Having spent so many weeks in Lockdown, it is exciting to see that we are beginning to take the first tentative steps back into the classroom. For the year 5s, it may be a little while yet before we are working away in one room. However, if we all keep to the distancing rules and wash our hands regularly, perhaps we will be reunited soon. This is what the classroom looks like now. It seems very empty doesn't it. It will be used as a classroom for a small group of children from today.

In the meantime, here is the link so that you can see some of your classmates:

Thank you very, very much for sending the videos in.

I will still be setting work for you to do, but, in preparation for year 6, I would like you to do both the English and Maths activities daily. It would be great if you could continue to send me work and emails. I know many of you have been working extremely hard and it has been exciting to see  you growing in confidence as writers, artists, mathematicians and scientists. For those of you may not have worked so hard, now is the time to focus and improve. With only a few weeks in year 5 left, there is not a moment to lose.

As for me,  I will be helping Mrs Dennis and Mrs Coulam , who will be teaching in school, by keeping in touch with their pupils and parents, too.  So, with any luck, we will all be busy! Have a great week!

Can you believe it? Half term is early upon us! Just before we get to our at-home holiday there will be a special assembly for everyone, delivered by the Bishop of Oxford at 10.30 am. He will be reflecting on the powerful bible text of David and Goliath, and will be considering some of the challenges that we all face during Lockdown, as well as considering some of the strategies that Christians have found helpful, over 1000s of years, for dealing with times of stress and difficulty. It sounds as if it will be well worth watching. You can find it here: https://vimeo.com/420854893/bad5d893a1

At the end of the assembly, here is also an invitation at the end of Bishop Steven’s talk to create something that represents courage, something that helps you to be strong, and have a big heart.

If you would like to take a photo of that and send it to the Diocese, then we will try to make these into some sort of slideshow or collage for all our schools to see. Please just send entries to this dropbox link :

    https://www.dropbox.com/request/4aOsYmpKea2KjlWzvP46

Please  keep the short 'hello-to- the -class' videos coming in. I have only had four so far. It would be great if everybody could send me a short film. Then the films will be edited together, so we can all see each other.

Thank you so much for sending in your robot pictures and reports. I have learnt so much about JK Rowling, Neymar's rainbow flicks, Sachin Tendulkar and Anne Frank. You have so much to teach me , so please keep the work coming in. For those who are avid Times Table Rock Stars followers, please look at the letter that I have saved at the end of the blog.
