Religious Education (RE) at Bradfield CE Primary

At Bradfield CE Primary School, Religious Education plays a central role in helping children understand the world around them and their place within it.  Rooted in our Christian vision of serving one another, humbly in love, pupils are encouraged to reflect on how beliefs and values can shape the way we live.

Through RE, pupils explore the nature of faith by developing knowledge and understanding of Christianity as a living and diverse faith, alongside a range of other religious and non-religious worldviews, including Islam, Judaism and Hindu Dharma. In a world of many different viewpoints, we aim to equip children with the knowledge, language and confidence to think carefully about belief, meaning and truth.

Our curriculum is built around engaging enquiry questions, which encourage pupils to explore important ideas such as:

What do people believe about God?

How do beliefs influence the way people live?

Why do people make different choices about faith and life?

Across each unit, children develop their understanding through a clear journey of learning—building knowledge of key stories, teachings and practices, and exploring how these shape the lives of individuals and communities. They are encouraged to ask questions, consider different perspectives and develop their own informed views.

We believe that Religious Education is not only about knowledge, but about developing empathy, respect and understanding. Through discussion, reflection and real-life examples, pupils learn to appreciate the diversity of belief in the world today and to live well alongside others, even when they hold different views.

Children are supported to make links between what they learn and the wider world, considering how values such as kindness, courage and compassion can be lived out in everyday life. Through this, RE contributes to pupils’ personal development, helping them to become thoughtful, respectful and responsible members of society.
