Our Christian Ethos

We look to Jesus as a model for how to live our lives with kindness, courage and respect.  In particular, we see Jesus as an example of courageous advocacy – being the voice of those who have no voice, standing up for what we believe in and doing what is right, even when it is difficult. Everything we do as a school, from our development work, to our approach to behaviour, starts with love.

“Serve one another, humbly in love” Galatians 5:13b

These words sit within a wider message about freedom. In Galatians, we are reminded that we are called to be free, but that freedom is not simply about doing whatever we choose. It is about using our freedom, our gifts and our opportunities in the service of others.

At Bradfield, we want every child to grow in knowledge, confidence, independence and wisdom. We want them to discover their strengths, develop their voice and learn to make thoughtful choices. But we also want them to understand that flourishing is not only about what we achieve for ourselves. It is about how we use what we have to contribute to the lives of others.

For us, freedom is freedom for purpose.

This shapes the way we learn, behave and live together. We encourage our children to believe deeply, exploring faith, values and the ideas that shape human life; to think critically, developing the knowledge and wisdom to make good choices; and to live courageously, using their voice and actions to make a positive difference.

Serving one another humbly in love can be seen in the everyday life of our school: in the way we care for one another, restore relationships when things go wrong, welcome and include others, take responsibility, speak up for what is right and use our learning to serve our community and the wider world.

Our hope is that children leave Bradfield not only well educated, but ready to use their freedom, their gifts and their lives with courage, compassion and purpose.

Our Curriculum Has Three Main Priorities

1. To build happy, resilient and empowered young people

Happiness, wellbeing and empowerment are at the heart of everything we do at Bradfield and we seek to make every child feel cared for, listened to and loved. We want our children to understand that challenges are part of life and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.  We aim to develop young people who are mentally strong, teaching them the tools and habits needed to grow and take care of themselves no matter what comes their way.  We teach them, through practical examples and opportunities, that they can be powerful agents for change in their own lives and communities.

2. To provide children with the knowledge, skills and self-awareness needed for the future.

We recognise that the future is unknown and that we are preparing our children for a rapidly advancing world where transferable skills will be increasingly important.  We seek to ensure that all children are able to express themselves articulately and that their knowledge is deep and long-lasting.

3. To provide children with a sense of belonging, connection and social responsibility.

We promote a sense of belonging in our community and encourage our children to be themselves and feel proud of who they are.  We aim to be a school with ‘No Outsiders’, where everyone is included and where inequality is challenged and diversity embraced. We actively encourage our children to stand up for what is right and to believe that they have the power to change the world on many levels.
