EYFS: Reception Class

Our Reception class follow the The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The Early Years Foundation Stage is the curriculum your child follows from birth until the end of their Reception year in school. The Early Years curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the needs of all pupils. It supports them to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding, as they start out on their educational journey, supporting them to progress from their individual starting points and preparing them for the next stage of their education. You can find our EYFS long term plan at the top of the blue download tabs at the foot of this page.

Our Approach

At Bradfield, we ensure learning opportunities that develop children's curiosity, motivation and critical thinking skills along with developing our school values of respect, courage and kindness. We work hard to provide children with a welcoming and rich learning environment that allows us to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum through play.

The children will have the opportunity throughout their day to engage in play-based activities indoors and outdoors. They will have access to a variety of areas within the classroom where they can independently choose and lead their own learning. Play-based learning provides opportunities for children to actively and imaginatively engage with people, objects and the environment.  Children are naturally motivated to play. Our play based curriculum builds on this motivation, using play as a context for learning. In this context, children can explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in an imaginative way.

Our play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. At Bradfield, we encourage children’s learning and inquiry through interactions that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels. Our aim is to have an environment that is welcoming, friendly, supportive and challenging. We wish for both you and your child to have a happy and confident beginning to their school life at Bradfield CE Primary School.
